Research abstract

Advancements in Beyond-Line-of-Sight (BLOS) Communications (COMMS) of hypersonic platforms is a key enabler for ensuring the United States maintains parity with potential adversaries. The ability to provide a satellite link for these high-speed vehicles significantly improves stand-off range and mission effectiveness. Therefore, there is great demand to equip US-based hypersonic platforms with robust antenna options that survive and operate in extremely hostile mechanical and thermal environments, and enable this advanced, mission-critical functionality. FIRST RF has developed numerous key high-temperature antenna technologies capable of sustained operation in the hypersonic regime. Utilizing these technologies, FIRST RF will develop a low-SWaP, high-temperature, wideband antenna capable of polarization diverse functionality for a target hypersonic platform.
