Research abstract

Legacy tactical radio systems are tied to a fixed frequency band—or small set of bands—by hardware design at the modem, making those links both predictable and vulnerable to targeted electromagnetic warfare techniques.  The agile use of unconventional frequency bands for tactical communications will give the warfighter additional freedom to maintain communications in contested environments. One way to mitigate this limitation is to utilize a much broader selection of frequency bands, and to support spectrum agility to change bands on the fly in a way that evades or confounds enemy countermeasures.  The agile use of unconventional frequency bands for tactical communications will give the warfighter additional freedom to maintain communications in contested environments.  FIRST RF is pleased to propose an antenna solution supporting this agile mode of operation that both supports the roadmap to future all-digital antenna interfaces as well as bridging the gap for fielded radios and legacy waveforms.
