Research abstract

Integrated Biometrics (IB) proposes to address the need among DHS Components, interagency stakeholders, non-federal entities, the Intelligence Community, and international mission partners for a wired interconnection to biometric capture devices that serves both Android and iOS devices. As both government agencies and commercial entities continue to use older iOS devices that only support Lightning connectivity, the need for a dual-capability wired interconnection will persist until both mobile device families fully transition to USB-C connections. IB’s state-of-the-art solution, BIOS Link, supports all necessary interconnections between mobile devices and biometric collection devices in a small form factor. IB’s proposed BIOS Link satisfies DHS requirements for: • Charging and data transfer for both Lightning and USB-C mobile devices. • Charging and data transfer for friction ridge and iris biometric collection devices. • ANSI/NIST-derived biometric interoperability standards. • A handheld single unit. • Safeguards for privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties.
