Research abstract

The U.S. Air Force requires an efficient, standardized system for packing and deploying Readiness Spare Packages (RSPs) to support mission readiness. Current manual packing methods result in a lengthy 14-day preparation time, causing delays and challenges in locating critical parts. The PackOPS system from 14bis offers an AI-driven, adaptable solution that builds on a Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) product, tailored for diverse AF deployment needs, from forward units to stationary bases. PackOPS leverages advanced optimization algorithms to streamline the packing process, cutting lead time from 14 days to just 3 days. The system's flexible architecture enables future scalability, including integration with maintenance and load planning tools. PackOPS also enhances inventory visibility, reduces search times, minimizes resource waste, and supports enforcement of proper storage and shipping protocols. In Phase II, 14bis will refine PackOPS to TRL 6, focusing on usability for novice packers, modular scalability, and compatibility with AF systems, positioning it for future Phase III commercialization across sectors such as aerospace, logistics, and humanitarian relief.
