Research abstract

The demand signal is high for operational coordination of multiple UASs operating within the same airspace.  The Virtual Air Boss (VAB) concept uses “cooperative teaming” that allows an UAS air control authority or mission planner to dynamically establish deconflicted flight corridors for multiple autonomous UASs executing their respective missions/tasks simultaneously.  Phase I of this R&D effort established the feasibility and utility of the VAB concept.  Phase II will develop, but not be limited to, the following advanced cooperative teaming capabilities: waypoint specification in an automated mission planner; in-flight mission re-routing; 3D view of geofences; automated release of airspace; Air Boss mission validation improvements; and FURI integration.
