Research abstract

The Black River Systems Co., Inc. and Syracuse Research Corporation team proposes to investigate and demonstrate multi-mission adaptive processing techniques for use with wideband and multi-band conformal arrays to achieve high detection probability andlow false alarm rates in the presence of severe clutter, jamming and RFI environments. Computer simulation models will be developed, providing a complete end-to-end modeling and simulation capability. The primary emphasis during Phase I includes: (1)performing an initial assessment of conformal array requirements, (2) investigating two new innovative STAP architectures (Severely Nonstationary Interference Processing, SNIP, and an enhanced Parametric Adaptive Matched Filter algorithm, SRC_PAMF) for usewith wideband/multi-band conformal arrays to achieve high detection performance and low false alarm rates, in addition to evaluating currently existing and evolving STAP algorithms, (3) prototyping these algorithms and demonstrating wideband/multi-bandconformal array STAP architecture feasibility via simulation, (4) assessing the computational complexity, including computational and latency requirements, and (5) developing a Phase II program plan for completion of the design initiated in Phase I.Measures of Performance (MOPs) will be utilized to provide a basis for performance comparison. The technology developed will become instrumental in the development of a variety of military and commercial applications including manned and unmanned airbornesurveillance radar applications, wireless telecommunications systems, and navigation (GPS) systems utilizing conformal arrays mounted onto or integrated into air or ground vehicles.
