Research abstract

Umbra plans to develop a prototype that demonstrates an increased observation area greater that 30 degrees off-nadir, improving coverage gaps of Areas of Interest (AOI) through an extended axe blade (ground projected access area), increased range swath, an additional scan mode, and tasking of arbitrary polygons. SAR has a unique advantage over optical imaging processes by allowing for greater off-nadir geometries while still maintaining accurate geolocation. Increased Field of Regard (FOR) through these techniques allow for lower revisit rates to fully capture the AOI, meeting the needs of the Navy.
