Research abstract

THE PROPOSED THREE-PHASE PROJECT ADDRESSES THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INDIUM PHOSPHIDE SOLAR CELL YIELDING HIGH RADIATION RESISTANCE, LOW WEIGHT, AND LOW FABRICATION COST. THE APPROACH PROPOSED HERE COMBINES THE USE OF A CONCENTRATOR DESIGN WITH FILMS FORMED BY THE CLEAVAGE OF LATERAL EXPITAXIAL FILMS FOR TRANSFER (CLEFT) PROCESS TO OBTAIN HIGHEFFICIENCY, LOW WEIGHT, AND RECOVERY OF THE SUBSTRATE. IN PHASE I, THE FEASIBILITY OF THE CONCENTRATOR AND CLEFT APPROACH WILL BE TESTED. IN PHASE II, IN-DEPTH RESEARCH WILL BE CARRIED OUT TO DEVELOP THE CLEFT TECHNIQUES AND TO IMPROVE THE CONCENTRATOR CELL DESIGN. PHASE III COMPRISES THE COMMERCIALIZATION OF THE TECHNOLOGY.
