Research abstract

The TSPI Datalink Network (TDN) System, proposed here, addresses the current range TSPI datalinks' need to povide more efficient spectrum utilization, real-time data processing and network connectivity to increase range productivity and cost-effectivenessin flight research. The Phase II TDN system development will focus on advanced research and engineering development leading to a prototype system for laboratory and field demonstration. The TDN system architecture utilizes an emerging commercial wirelessdata network technology and standards and a novel implementation approach using COTS hardware and wireless IP standards to provide an open, non-proprietary design and a low-cost system implementation. The TDN system meets the government range TSPI andtelemetry requirements and provides a scalable, cost-effective network system solution. The proposed Phase II TDN program will lead to the design, implementation, and delivery of a set of COTS-based TSPI Datalink Network (TDN) prototype equipment. ThisPhase II effort, based on advanced technology and standards for the Third Generation (3G) commercial wireless networks, provides an early capability demonstration of the benefits attained by introducing advanced network connectivity to the range TSPIdatalink application to support real-time communications and flight safety. The TDN concept and its technology are readily applicable to other related DoD activities, such as the Enhanced Range Applications Program (EnRAP
