Research abstract

This important SBIR effort aims to develop a dynamically reconfigurable, minimal latency and power, 6U VPX RF Advanced Transceiver Architecture and Design Concept with increased bandwidth (IBW) and spectral coverage, greatly increased Processing Power, and general technology refresh of technology in the Navy MISD chassis. The current MISD design is based on ~2010 processing and transceiver technology which is generations behind the present, holding back the potential of  important Navy missions, and leaving the government beholden to a current single source Transceiver dilemma. This effort will increase RF performance, bandwidth, and spectral coverage, while greatly increasing onboard processing resources, most importantly by leveraging 2024+ technology to avoid looming technology obsolescence. We will accomplish this without degrading performance specifications, and maintaining good compatibility with current software and firmware applications.  In Phase I of this SBIR, we conducted thorough engineering trade studies to define concepts for an Advanced RF Transceiver Architecture that can be a viable drop-in upgrade to the Navy’s MISD chassis. Leveraging the vast experience of our team in RF and Digital Transceiver architecture development, and conversations with both the Navy and key stakeholders, we now offer the Navy a path to a true second-source option with superior capabilities, which meets or exceeds performance requirements, and which maintains compatibility with legacy Software and Applications (Apps).  This Phase II effort will advance this technology to prototype and demonstrations, along with a design concept and manufacturing and commercialization plan to fabricate production Advanced RF Transceiver modules for future MISD integration.
