Wideband RF Transceiver for SIGINT and ESM Applications

To meet the NavyÆs need for a low SWaPC RF transceiver, Epirus is proposing an RF system on a chip (RFSoC) architecture capable of simultaneously handling thousands of signals. The proposed system enables operators to collect signals across wide bandwidths with low SWaPC requirements and covers a wide range of RF signal bandwidths used in both military and commercial missions (L-band through Ka-band), while also enabling multiple simultaneous transmit and receive. It can support SIGINT, Electronic Counter Measures (ECM), jamming, Electronic Warfare (EW) as well as emerging operational needs such as Signals of Opportunity in hostile or signal-dense environments. Our novel approach implements an innovative frequency-interleaving method combined with analog to digital converter (ADC) technology to overcome technical challenges associated with the requirement for wide bandwidth and high resolution. The proposed design is modular and will futureproof the system to upgrades and extensions as new RF technology becomes available. The proposed system will also utilize EpirusÆ patented RF power management techniques for increased power efficiency and further SWaPC reduction. Epirus provides the Navy with dozens of years of design experience at major defense contractors on numerous RF systems. Epirus possesses state-of-the-art RF design, test, and simulation capabilities at its Torrance, CA facilities, including licenses for major RF simulation platforms, onsite RF testbeds, and chip and board design and prototyping tools. We have proven our ability to support rapid transition from initial design to functional prototypes through our Leonidas product line and look forward to replicating this speed-to-market with the Navy.
