Research abstract

This project will develop an integrated system to control the emissions of particulates and VOC's from Air Force painting booths. Success in this undertaking will provide a reliable, high efficiency, low operating cost alternative to existing control systems. The objective of the Phase I program is to demonstrate experimentally, the technical feasibility of a catalytic filter/incinerator system to control paint spray booth emissions. The program will establish that a lab scale catalytic filter/incinerator can collect paint particulates with high efficiency and consume the organic portion of the particulate effectively, with recovery and removal of ashes and residues. The effectiveness of the Phase I unit will be tested with different paints. A preliminary economic analysis of the proposed technology will be performed in comparison to existing treatment methods. The option task proposed is to determine particulate size distribution.
