Research abstract

The Standoff Detection of Hidden Objects using Tensor Gradiometers (SHOT) project aims to enhance weapon detection capabilities, especially in areas with bushes and foliage where weapons and explosives can be easily concealed. This innovation will help protect public spaces and ensure safety. FieldLine Industries (FLI) and the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) propose a compact, portable full tensor magnetic gradiometer that integrates scalar and vector magnetometers. This system leverages the intrinsic magnetism of weapons, detecting and localizing them by their impact on local magnetic fields from over 50 feet away.
