Research abstract

The primary objective of this Phase II proposal is to gain DLA/USAF SAR approval for eleven additional NSN’s aerospace bearings. Expanding the small business manufacturer (SBM) base to address the DLA’s need to develop qualified sources of supply for aerospace bearing applications to improve DLA product availability, provide competition for reduced lead time and cost, as well as address lifecycle performance issues. It also presents the opportunity to develop small service-disabled veteran owned business (SDVOSB) to demonstrate their ability to support this initiative to consistently meet the DoD’s specifications and demands in a timely and competitive manner.  These objectives will be achieved through the development of Source Approval Requests (SAR) prepared and submitted by AMG Engineering & Machining, Incorporated for aerospace bearings with technical data provided by the government, through other sources, and company research.   Phase II research will mirror that of Phase I, demonstrating the feasibility of manufacturing aerospace bearings as detailed per existing data and drawings utilizing, reverse engineering techniques, CNC precision machining technology, an experienced technical team of programmers and engineers, and our team journeyman toolmakers/machinists. These teams will collaborate to create processes to manufacture and build tools and fixtures to facilitate manufacturing aerospace bearings.  The Phase II work plan will include the following tasks for achieving the stated objectives:Data collection Analysis of technical data (including tests and evaluations)Obtain technical clarification and/or concerns from DLA / Engineering Support Activity (ESA) point of contact (POC)Team feasibility reviewIdentify all factors that could affect health and safety associated with the projectIdentify all risks associated with the projects (Including FMEA)Develop SAR plansDevelop plan that ensures all test requirements are achieved as specified Determine critical nature of this item Critical Application Item / Critical Safety Item (CAI/CSI)Identify certified suppliersIdentify special materials and processes required and their impactIdentify difficult to obtain components and proceed with make/buy optionsThoroughly understand all packaging and labeling requirements/specificationsIdentify internal and external resources necessary to successfully complete the project Repair Parts Purchase or Borrow (RPPOB) is unlikely, however, DLA and ESA support will be sought as the need arises.
