Research abstract

The primary objective of this proposal is to expand the small business manufacturer (SBM) base to address the DLAÆs need to develop qualified sources of supply for aerospace bearing applications to improve DLA product availability, provide competition for reduced lead time and cost, as well as address lifecycle performance issues. It also presents the opportunity to develop small service-disabled veteran owned business (SDVOSB) to demonstrate their ability to support this initiative to consistently meet the DoDÆs specifications and demands in a timely and competitive manner. These objectives will be achieved through the development of Source Approval Requests (SAR) prepared and submitted by AMG Engineering & Machining, Incorporated for aerospace bearings with technical data provided by the government, through other sources, and company research. Phase I research will demonstrate the feasibility of manufacturing aerospace bearings as detailed per Boeing drawing BACB10ET and Spec drawing NP203535 utilizing CNC precision machining technology, an experienced technical team of programmers and engineers, and our team journeyman toolmakers/machinists. These teams will collaborate to create processes to manufacture and build tools and fixtures to facilitate manufacturing aerospace bearings. Completion of research activities will enable AMG to manage the process design while developing drawings and specifications required for the TDP, SAR preparation, and testing documentation as needed, to achieve DLAÆs SBIR Phase I objectives. The Phase I work plan will include the following tasks for achieving the stated objectives: Data collectionĀ Analysis of technical data (including tests and evaluations) Obtain technical clarification and/or concerns from DLA / Engineering Support Activity (ESA) point of contact (POC) Team feasibility review Identify all factors that could affect health and safety associated with the project Identify all risks associated with the projects (Including FMEA) Develop SAR plans Develop plan that ensures all test requirements are achieved as specified Determine critical nature of this item Critical Application Item / Critical Safety Item (CAI/CSI) Identify certified suppliers Identify special materials and processes required and their impact Identify difficult to obtain components and proceed with make/buy options Thoroughly understand all packaging and labeling requirements/specifications Identify internal and external resources necessary to successfully complete the project Gathering data for this initiative should not require Repair Parts Purchase or Borrow (RPPOB) but will likely include DLA and ESA support and/or assistance.
