Research abstract

This proposal is to define requirements, trade-offs and design parameters for a large (6.144Mb) nonvolatile data recorder memory, capable of surviving up to 100kg shock during tests of ordinance devices. Data retention over wide temperature extremes, without power is accomplished through use of ferroelectric RAMs, a nearly ideal storage device for this application. Tasks include memory chip characterization of COTS parts, development of interface to sensors, architecture, fault tolerance. MCM packaging is key to meet lin3 volume. A specific task will be to test and qualify selected memory chips for survival of 100 kg shock and data retention when mounted in candidate packaging means. Also, under the proposed tasks, a preliminary design for a full-up DEM/VAL brassboard will be implemented.
