Research abstract

This proposal develops a compact frequency shifter photonic integrated circuit (PIC) operating at 780 nm center wavelength that can be used to probe atomic transitions in quantum sensing and communications applications. The device is capable of pure frequency shift of > 5 GHz of optical power > 300 mW, with > 30 dB of sideband suppression and using < 100 mW of electrical power. The PIC is integrable with other electronics and photonic functions, such as sub-microsecond pulse generation, optical switching and attenuation, via silicon photonics foundries such as the American Institute for Manufacturing (AIM) Photonics.
