Research abstract

1The completion of the Phase I contract would result in the development of a micro-climate heating and cooling device that will be light-weight; have a small battery operated pump as the only moving component; and have a system that could be regenerated. This device would have applications to commercial as well as military needs. The advantage to this system is that the heading or cooling is generated by reaction of water vapor or other working fluid with an adsorbent material, and it does not require the use of refrigeration to keep phase-change material cold. Regeneration could be accomplished with an electric resistance heater that could be inserted into the adsorption bed. In view of Mainstream's long-term commitment to the design and development of long-life, micro-climate cooling systems for military and commercial applications, our past record of sucessful performance, and the potential benefits of a lightweight system, we believe the proposed micro-climate cooling system merits investigation.
