Research abstract

Recent improvements in hardware and software capabilities promote new powerful computing paradigms that have the potential to significantly improve safety and efficiency. Two such paradigms are Zero Trust networks and Digital Twins. ATC-NY proposes FORTRESS (Fast, Orderly, Reliable, Tree-based Resource Enforcement Security System) to blend advantages of these two approaches while disentangling their conflicts. FORTRESS will ameliorate the most time consuming and restrictive components of managing a digital twin within the bounds of a zero trust architecture. Users will safely maintain complex digital twins with real-time constraints, high volume data requirements, and strict security needs while remaining aligned with the foundational tenets of zero trust architectures. ATC-NY will build on existing experience with cybersecurity threat modeling and digital twins to produce a software system that offers practical benefits towards meeting zero trust guidelines.
