Research abstract

The proposed Person-in-water Recovery System with Visual Response (PRSVR) system builds on the time-honored tradition of throwing a floatation device after a Person In the Water (PIW). The system will combine Areté expertise in remote human detection and buoy development to provide a full system capable of detecting when a person has gone overboard. The system will not require any device to be worn or maintained by the sailor. When detected, the PRSRVR system will deploy a buoy which can serve both as a personal floatation device, and a communication line back to the original ship out to at least 10nm. The buoy will have several features which will assist in the recovery of the PIW.
