Research abstract

Ziva’s innovative Two-Way-Time Transfer techniques promises to provide a lightweight wireless two-way time transfer (TWTT) system, integrated into a modern RF system-on-a-chip (SoC) capable of aligning the clocks between a cluster of LEO satellites with sub nanosecond accuracy.  The TWTT system will deal with the massive Doppler shifts with up to 15,000 m/s of relative movement coupled with long time-of-flight delays (up to 60 ms), without using the entire DSP budget of the SoC or requiring a high-SWaP IMU. The TWTT system design promises a scalability path that leads to widespread proliferation, via the utilization of modern RFCMOS and chiplets.  Ziva will determine though simulation what types of Doppler correction will work for TWTT in LEO orbital dynamics and implement and integrate the Doppler correction into Ziva’s TWTT system. Ziva will create an RF intersatellite crosslink emulation system to test the TWTT implementation and perform a laboratory demonstration of the TWTT system aligning and measure the accuracy between a variety of different emulated LEO orbital shells.
