Research abstract

Optical Flame Detectors (OFDs) on the Navy ships have experienced nuisance and false alarms. The Navy is seeking a shipboard qualified flame detector solution that reliably functions in compact, crowded spaces and can be integrated with the Fire Detection and Actuation System (FDAS). Engineering & Scientific Innovations, Inc (ESI) has developed a Smart Fire Protection System (SFPS) that includes optics and an onboard custom processor providing enhanced multi-wavelength spectra measurement capability that allows the system to rapidly detect fuel fires while eliminating false positives. To address the Navy’s need for a Fire detection system, ESI plans to modify the current Optics suit and a version of the custom onboard processor and software which incorporates ESI propriety artificial intelligence (AI) to detect fires aboard naval vessels using the Navy’s requirements.
