Research abstract

In collaboration with the College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL) at the University of Central Florida (UCF), Olkin Optics proposes a unique initiative under the Navy STTR program to develop a transformative multi-kW class Hollow- Core Fiber (HCF) connectorized cable assembly with Optical Hull Penetrator (OHP) for submerged operations. Our team has demonstrated advanced HCF technology, with multi-kW power handling capabilities.  Our novel HCFs present exceptional performance metrics: coupling efficiency exceeding 97% from a single mode fiber laser, reduced bend losses, resilient single-mode operation and ultra-low loss. The proposed HCF cable not only addresses the Navy's specific need for a multi-kW class SBS suppressed HCF dip-loop assembly but also paves the way for advanced directed energy beam delivery capabilities in commercial and other DoD settings.
