Research abstract

The outcome of Phase I of this project was to identify our USAF customer, The Defense Health Agency (59th Medical Wing (MDW/ST) and Headquarters USAF (HAF) A5, who will work with our end user, Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) 711th HPW Human Performance Product Area Line Lead Office, and to establish that successful adaptation of the Sonde Mental Fitness (SMF) civilian product will help address a national defense-related mission need to optimize USAF readiness to deploy and fight through the deployment of non-invasive, rapid, and reliable monitoring of mental health states—particularly mood and fatigue—among military personnel using Sonde's advanced vocal biomarker technology. The main goals of Phase II will be to validate the operational utility of the mental fitness solution in the DAF, enhance operational command through a data interface for mental fitness monitoring, enhance operational decision making through integrated data analysis of SMF measures with measures available from standard-issue fitness wearables, maximize usability and engagement across USAF and/or USSF pilot populations, and demonstrate engagement and operational performance validation in non-clinical DAF settings.  Successful achievement of these goals as measured by key performance indicators developed with our customer and end-user partners will establish the readiness of the adapted solution for Phase III transition and broader use across DAF populations.
