Research abstract

Cybersecurity training is crucial as the DAF reoptimizes forces for great power competition. However, current cybersecurity training methods are outdated, time-consuming, and costly. Additionally, they lack the agility required to adapt to today's rapidly evolving cyber threat landscape. Cyber threats today are growing in number, speed, and sophistication, providing a continuous challenge for the DAF to prepare mission-capable Airmen and Guardians. As a crucial element of the DAF's training and education infrastructure, the implementation of Haiku Forge addresses the need for modernized training methods to prepare Airmen and Guardians for evolving cyber threats. Haiku Forge's lightweight and customizable Unity-based network simulator facilitates seamless deployment of tailored training modules across diverse skill levels and operational needs, even in air-gapped environments. By providing accelerated, cost-effective, and flexible training, Haiku Forge positions the DAF at the forefront of cyber-related career fields, enhancing readiness and operational superiority in the face of dynamic cyber warfare challenges.Strategically, Haiku Forge offers benefits such as applicability across skill levels, enhanced training effectiveness, adaptability to evolving threats, targeted skill development, continuous learning opportunities, increased engagement through gamification features, and dual-use applications beyond military contexts. These features not only bolster mission readiness but also contribute to recruitment and retention efforts by making military service more appealing to new recruits and supporting the ongoing development of experienced personnel.
