Research abstract
The Airborne Lidar & Photogrammetric Precision Navigation System (ALPPS-GPS) represents a groundbreaking advancement in alternative navigation technologies designed to operate effectively in GPS-denied environments. Our system uniquely integrates Lidar and photogrammetry sensors with advanced AI/ML-driven algorithms, ensuring precise real-time navigation, situational awareness, and robust obstacle avoidance. The ALPPS-GPS system leverages intelligent sensor fusion to aggregate navigation information from various onboard sensors, processing this data to facilitate accurate vehicle self-localization and dynamic path adjustments. One of the key innovations of ALPPS-GPS is the implementation of loop closure techniques, which recognize previously visited locations to correct accumulated navigational errors, significantly improving positional accuracy. This process involves comparing current sensor data with previously recorded data to adjust the vehicle's estimated position and update the environmental map, thus maintaining high levels of reliability and operational integrity. This capability is crucial for maintaining tactical air dominance, as it enables superior maneuverability and mission execution even in contested and adversarial conditions. The system's resilience to GPS spoofing and other electronic countermeasures ensures reliable navigation in compromised environments, enhancing global strike capabilities by enabling accurate target engagement without reliance on GPS. The integration of passive sensor modes and advanced signal processing minimizes detectability, supporting stealth operations and further ensuring mission success.ALPPS-GPS is designed for seamless integration with a wide range of platforms, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), fighter jets, and Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs). This adaptability ensures that the system can be rapidly deployed across various mission scenarios, maintaining operational readiness and effectiveness. The system's AI/ML-driven infrastructure continuously learns and adapts, optimizing performance and ensuring precise navigation and situational awareness in real-time. The impact of ALPPS-GPS extends beyond military applications, providing significant benefits for disaster response, autonomous transportation, infrastructure inspection, and geospatial mapping. By offering a robust and reliable navigation solution that operates independently of GPS, ALPPS-GPS enhances the USAF's ability to maintain tactical air dominance, execute global strikes with precision, and ensure readiness to deploy and fight in any environment. Additionally, the system's contributions to the Space Order of Battle reinforce its strategic importance, ensuring superior control and operational flexibility in space-based operations.
