Research abstract

The introduction of diverse weapon platforms, which can include Directed Energy Weapon Systems among an arsenal of traditional kinetic weapons has complicated the battle management space of operators in the field. When rapid decision making is required for the efficient selection of a weapon for a given scenario, there arises a need to be able to more rapidly determine the most efficient option. Each weapon option has many differing limitations, and the general selection process can be further challenged by the need to incorporate additional factors such as weather and atmospheric conditions when considering non-kinetic alternatives to typical, more expensive, kinetic approaches. To combat this challenge, the automation of certain calculations to determine efficacy in different scenarios could greatly simplify the otherwise complicated battle management and weapon selection of a given engagement. MZA Associates Corporation (MZA) proposes a three-part development cycle for a battle management system build on the foundation of automating the decision-making process for weapon selection, by providing accurate engagement efficacy scores for threats in real-time. With MZAÆs expansive expertise in the field of High-Energy Laser Weapon Systems, we have the fundamental knowledge and tools to design and develop and efficient battle management system that can incorporate simulations of Directed Entergy engagements in real-time, as well as provide accurate predictions through our curated suite of Machine Learning enhanced atmospheric turbulence and weather prediction models. This system will provide real-time and comprehensive efficacy characteristics of non-kinetic weapon systems, with the availability for further expansion into the field of kinetic efficacy prediction and modeling.
