Research abstract

Dynovas is proposing the utilization of it’s developed in house capabilities for advanced manufacturing of structural parts (metals, composites, and plastics) to support the Defense Logistics Agency’s (DLA) critical supply chains. Explicitly, there is a desire to expand the Small Business Manufacture base to address DLA’s need for qualified supply sources and the associated product availability, lead time, cost, performance, obsolesces, as well as address lifecycle performance issues as identified in SBIR Topic DLA241-002. To answer this call, Dynovas is proposing to utilize advanced manufacturing capabilities, experienced technical team, and rapid development processes via additive metals and composites to manufacture, test, and qualify as a source of supply for 1+ of the identified parts/NSNs applicable to solicitation DLA241-002 in support of NAVAIR’s PMA-202. Dynovas has selected several initial candidates, each of which will require some degree of reverse engineering based off limited to no technical data available and potentially PMA-202 supplied representative parts.            Dynovas’ proposed solution for supplying qualified parts to the critical supply chain will employ the developed Field Optimized Advanced Manufacturing (FOAM) Pod processes, which goes beyond replication of single parts through utilization of equipment and manufacturing procedures refined for scalable production or point-of-need manufacturing. Dynovas, in partnership with ExOne, has matured the Field Optimized Advanced Manufacturing (FOAM) Pod under a parallel DLA SBIR Phase II efforts, which has successfully refined the manufacturing process and equipment to be utilized within a mobile manufacturing/containerized solution, or as a dedicated manufacturing suite that can be stood up across domestic and foreign depots, manufacturing centers, or forward deployment sites. Dynovas' proposed manufacturing solution to the current need provides not only a qualified part and repeatable process, but a cohesive part production platform from CONUS/OCONUS to expeditionary manufacturing for both critical and non-critical parts.  This Phase I program will begin qualifying parts produced by the FOAM Pod system and the system itself through the standard Source Approval Request process within the 6-month $100,000 Phase I Base period of performance for the NAVAIR PMA-202 hardware and components of interest published via SBIR 24.1 parts list.        With a FOAM POD / process produced set of hardware referenced above, our warfighters can return from a mission with a broken part, walk into the pod, and walk out with a new version in <3 days, maximizing their operational effectivity. To that end, this process and equipment is well suited for rapid reverse engineering efforts enabled by its agile and cost-effective production capability to quickly scan, print, iterate, and finish parts near the point of need.
