Research abstract
Historically, health service support (HSS), despite its importance on the battlefield, has not been a focus of DoD wargaming efforts. As the Marines Corps transition their force to better support new emerging operational requirements, the ability to realistically simulate HSS is an important factor of force design and training and education efforts. EMP Consulting LLC is proposing an innovative solution to more realistically model medical support in USMC wargames. Our novel approach is to develop conceptual models that capture all the key processes and data requirements to realistically simulate casualty generation, treatment and movement through medical networks that are integrated into the new operational environments described in the Commandant's Planning Guidance. Innovative plans to model processes such as medical supply consumption, blood usage, medical resupply, blood resupply and enroute care, which are typically lacking in current wargames, will be developed. In addition, EMP will identify other gaps and shortfalls in existing wargames and develop innovative solutions to address deficiencies and recommend the feasibility of incorporating these models into the Marine Corps wargaming program.
