Research abstract

Current navigation systems are heavily reliant on Global Positioning System (GPS) signals, which presents security and availability challenges. Advances in adversaries jamming techniques and degraded Anti-Access Area Denial (A2/AD) environments can compromise GPS capabilities and has placed our military forces at risk. These GPS denied and degraded environments cause many current navigation systems to function poorly or not at all. There is a need for Alternative Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (Alt-PNT) approach that take advantage of non-GPS Signals of Opportunity (SoOP) to determine earth relative location. Applied Systems Engineering Inc (ASEI) is uniquely qualified to develop a navigation solution using SoOPs for GPS denied and degraded environments. ASEI specializing in navigation, guidance and weapon solutions, proposes to develop an Alt-PNT  solution  that leverages our Advanced Tactical Navigator (ATACNAV), a highly accurate navigation system that enables mission completion in denied or degraded GPS environments. The Alt-PNT solution is a highly accurate navigation system that includes M-code GPS, a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver with anti-jam features, an IMU, CPU, power/interface card, and a Globalstar satellite receiver. The technical objective for this Alt-PNT effort is to update the ATACNAV Micro design for the integration of a Globalstar receiver, build and test prototype systems and conduct a prototype flight demonstration to verify that signals from the Globalstar satellite constellation can produce pseudo-GPS signal.
