Research abstract

In the US Air Force, it has been estimated that wounds are associated with 27% of non-battle injuries. As many as 90% of chronic wounds contain invisible microbial biofilms that perpetuate inflammation and prevent healing. Skin grafting involves the surgical removal of a patch of skin, which is then transplanted from one area of the body to another. For decades, it has been known that survival during a skin graft is well-correlated with the number of viable bacteria in the recipient bed. Our XSONX product limits biofilm growth by coupling a novel debridement tool with our proprietary iodine wound dressing technology. Debridement—which is typically a painful procedure involving a scalpel—is the medical removal of biofilms and dead, damaged, or infected tissue. Our debridement tools consist of proprietary handheld, micro-vibrational devices to clean and debride wounds. Due to the principle of vibrational analgesia, our technology results in less pain than conventional methods, with more controlled treatment. Our debridement tools are inexpensive compared with other debridement tools, and cleansing is completed in as little as 1 minute. XSONX offers a competitive product that is cheaper, easier to use, and less painful than other commercially available options.
