Research abstract

Optimuos has innovated a tool that accelerates the material development process through the application of multi-scale modeling and deep learning, establishing a Virtual Material Development and Testing Lab. This tool revolutionizes the traditional approach by enabling virtual design and testing of materials. It creates digital twins, which are virtual replicas of both the materials and the physical testing equipment, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of material properties and behaviors without the need for physical prototypes. By leveraging computational stations, Optimuos generates precise digital twins that detail the complex properties of materials, from their structural intricacies to their behavioral patterns. This is made possible through advanced physics-based machine learning algorithms, which discern the underlying architecture and patterns of materials, facilitating the creation of accurate digital samples. These samples are then subjected to virtual tests using the digital twin of relevant testing equipment, covering a wide range of material characteristics such as mechanical and structural properties (e.g., hardness, tensile strength, fatigue) and thermal behavior. This virtual testing methodology not only reduces dependency on physical prototypes but also streamlines the optimization of material formulations, significantly cutting down on development time and associated costs. Our approach is in line with the objectives of the Materials Genome Initiative and the principles of Integrated Computational Materials Science and Engineering, which both underscore the necessity of computational methods to effectively harness the growing tide of data generation. Furthermore, Optimuos tackles the iterative nature of research head-on. By seamlessly integrating new data into subsequent experiment designs, it alleviates the bottleneck traditionally caused by human involvement in the analysis and experimental design phases. This not only saves valuable time and reduces testing expenses but also utilizes data to empower AI, transforming Optimuos tool into an autonomous platform capable of enhancing and optimizing material formulations and designs. Consequently, this accelerates the iteration process in material development, marking a significant leap forward in the field and offering a smarter, more efficient path to material innovation.
