Research abstract

The Air Force seeks to lessen the dependence on the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS), lower manpower requirements, and datalink resources while engaging targets with Group 2 Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Specifically, the Air Force seeks this capability in the scenario of tracking ground targets from a distance or as part of a loitering munition system in the terminal phase of flight. Corvid Technologies LLC (Corvid) proposes to fill this gap with a custom hardware and software seeker solution that leverages our expertise in Guidance, Navigation, and Control for munitions combined with the capabilities of our machine vision team in processing video data. Corvid will develop a robust gimbal system to house multi-band camera sensors with gimbals requirements derived from closed-loop, guided simulations. Our experience in each of the three main focus areas, (1) terminal guidance, (2) electronic packaging, and (3) machine vision algorithms, will reduce developmental risk, ensuring that the Air Force will receive a robust package that enables target tracking for reconnaissance and terminal engagements.
