Research abstract

Aperture Space is developing the first low-cost and compact L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (L-SAR) sensor and antenna payload to generate actionable intelligence and insights for sub-canopy Tactical ISR and surface Environmental Monitoring. Rather than deploying invaluable personnel, Aperture’s L-SAR sensing can perform premium wide-area, sub-canopy monitoring and change detection of Vehicle & Equipment Movements, Weapons installations Detection, Adversary Structures Mapping and more. L-SAR is not dependent on the sun’s rays to capture changes on the Earth’s surface, so it can monitor events, environmental conditions, and movements 24/7, during extreme weather conditions, and can penetrate foliage and tree cover. Additionally, L-SAR is capable of providing medium resolution (sub-10m), quad-polarization, interferometric measurements of areas of interest and also adds additional measurements of surface deformation for roads, landslides and volcanoes and ice melt, critical for Northern Tier operations. Aperture Space is actively developing an L-SAR payload and an environmental monitoring analytics platform across commercial industries in Agriculture, Water Management, Natural Disaster Mitigation and Climate monitoring.
