Research abstract

Technical Abstract The Air Force has a pressing need for ground vehicles to meet real-time requirements for “silent watch” missions and to match the mounting threats presented by near-peer adversaries such as China and Russia. The Pawnee Off-Road Utility Terrain Electric Vehicle (UTEV) will allow warfighters to rapidly deploy and assess enemy threats where minimal detection is required. Pawnee Off-Road will engineer purpose-built UTEVs that will feature off-road race-proven suspensions and electric powertrains for swift and stealthy operations. Concerning stealth operations, a UTEV produces roughly 75% less heat than a typical internal combustion engine and can operate in near silence when in “stealth” mode. Concerning speed, UTEVs also outperform comparable ICE vehicles in virtually all practical applications. TECHNICAL MERIT The Pawnee Off-Road UTEV will be versatile and reliable to support various military operations by enhancing mobility, flexibility, and effectiveness in combat and non-combat scenarios. This UTEV was designed from the ground up, focusing on a suspension that can withstand the demanding requirements of special forces operators. The anticipated results from this development are increase mission success and decrease warfighter casualties by providing a vehicle with a robust suspension and an electric powertrain.  TEAM Automotive industry veterans and powertrain experts founded Pawnee Off-Road. Two of the founders are graduates from Kettering University (formerly the General Motors Institute), the leading automotive engineering school in the country, and multiple members of the founding team have started successful business ventures in the past. Our business development partner is a former AFSOC operator, who provides us with invaluable information and guidance for doing business with the DAF. Our CEO, William Frazer, has an MS from Kettering University and has been involved in the automotive and manufacturing industries for over 20 years. COMMERCIALIZATION Pawnee Off-road has received approximately $150k in funding support for the development of the UTEV program. We are also in talks with several investors for up to $5M in funding. The most promising prospect is a defense contractor with complimentary products, for which we are seeking an investment of $1M. Within two years of initial sales to the DoD, we plan on releasing the civilian version of the vehicle. First-year sales are expected to be $7.5M, ramping up to $150M over the next seven years. The current proposed vehicle platform has achieved initial traction with other defense contractors that require a capable vehicle with features that minimize detection. These same attributes have made this vehicle very attractive to the hunting community, which values these same qualities.
