Research abstract

Breaching of secure, armored vehicles in emergency situations often puts the emergency response team at risk from an assailant or passengers at risk due to extended rescue times.  RA Tools is developing a compact, battery powered, double acting hydraulic power unit to provide portable power to various tools to gain entry into armored vehicles, fortified structures, vessel hatches and hurricane glass. RA Tools’ will leverage its hydraulic breaching expertise to design an ultra-compact, double acting hydraulic power unit that is totally self-contained and has near silent operation.  This versatile power unit will enable several emerging forced entry and rescue methods.  These include: •Tactical or rescue breaching of armored vehicles (double acting tool is required for spreading and cutting capability) •Breaching of hurricane glass (two hydraulic cylinders required) - DOD vulnerability •Tactical robot capable of remote door breaching (Tow cylinders required) This  development project will be in collaboration with the University of Minnesota.
