Research abstract

This proposal is a continuation of the effort initiated under the DARPA GRIT program to develop a tunable, directional, and intense Inverse Compton Scattering (ICS) gamma-ray source, which can be realized in a compact topology, transported in a single 40’ cargo container, and deployed for a wide range of civilian and defense applications. A demonstrator (lower flux and energy range) version of such source is currently under construction, and nears completion. In this project we propose to launch an experimental program at the demonstrator facility, with the goal of optimizing the system performance and sub-systems capabilities, in support of the applications. The effort will also facilitate faster productization of the developed technologies, including novel photoinjector, high gradient modular linac and the ICS source itself.
