Robust Dynamic Environment Sensing for Autonomous Robots with AI-Driven 4D Imaging Radars

The 2023 Data, Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence Adoption Strategy released by the DoD builds upon previous strategies and is focused on maintaining the United States' competitive edge in AI technology. Col. Shane Upton, director of the Contested Logistics CFT, stated “Human-machine integration is fundamental to sustaining the future joint force operating in a contested logistics environment.” Autonomous robotic systems such Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV’s), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s), are critical assets to the Department of the Air Force (DAF) capable of performing a wide range of tasks like surveillance and reconnaissance and logistical support. However, current sensors used in autonomous robotic systems face several challenges and limitations, which can hinder the robot's ability to operate effectively in complex and dynamic environments. Some of those challenges include limited perception range, sensitivity to environment conditions, limited field view and vulnerability to interference.  ???????
