Research abstract

The DOD has a need to improve its use of existing flight data, and expand the use cases for flight data to address both current safety issues and the potential for increased risk exposure due to longer flight profiles in future Pacific theater missions. To address this need, Beacon AI has a cloud and web-based data analytics platform and an in-flight assistant to augment pilot performance. The goal of this effort is to research and adapt the platform to get well beyond retroactive pilot training and macro fleet-wide analysis, and to get ahead of the next potential mishap. This proposal stems from recent customer discovery meetings with USAF personnel in Wing Safety and the Air Force Safety Center (AFSEC). The following research would advance the state of the art for the use of advanced software analytics in flight safety and live pilot assistants. This effort will provide a step change in the way that flight debrief, flight data review, and military flight operations quality assurance (MFOQA) programs are run.
