Research abstract

The evolution of Fleet Operations has been marked by significant advancements in recent years, with Operational Control Centers (OCCs) serving as crucial integrative hubs for airlines, ensuring adaptability and robustness during unforeseen disruptions stemming from crew management, mechanical failures, weather conditions, etc. This modernization has penetrated the business charter sector as well. However, it has been observed that Department of Defense (DOD) units generally exhibit inferior capabilities in aircraft tracking and ground support, predominantly relying on basic tools like radio and flight schedules. Despite the presence of a fleet operations center within the Air Mobility Command (AMC), there exists a discernible gap in operational safety, efficiency, and insight into fleet status and communications. Our proposal introduces the 'Lighthouse' product, designed to augment the operational capacities of AMC and, subsequently, the wider DOD. Lighthouse aims to elevate the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations, offering enhanced insights into fleet statuses, delays, and communication, thereby resolving the prevalent inefficiencies. It employs an advanced technology platform capable of delivering context-rich streaming data, akin to the technologies deployed by autonomous vehicle companies for remote assistance, exceeding the extant capabilities of leading aircraft operators. This proposal seeks to bridge the technological divide, allowing DOD units to leverage modern innovations for optimized fleet operations.
