Research abstract

While recent Tactically Responsive Space (TacRS) demonstrations to date have focused on LEO, there is an urgent need to responsively launch space vehicles beyond LEO to high energy orbits including MEO, GEO, and cislunar orbits. Impulse Space, Inc. is developing a high energy kick stage called Helios which delivers 5 metric tons of payload to GEO in under 24 hours. The kick stage is designed to fit on medium lift launch vehicles to LEO and allows direct-to-GEO access. This Phase II will fund development and testing of the Helios Deneb engine to near flight qualification and investigate architectures for integration of a high energy kick stage into TacRS GEO architectures.
