Research abstract

Alpine seeks to provide a turnkey solution for manufacturing purpose-built parts by using HX5, an advanced carbon fiber reinforced polymer system specifically designed to replace aerospace-grade aluminum at 93% of the strength, but only half the weight, across a variety of aerospace and defense applications. Developed at Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, AlpineÆs HX5ĀĀcomponents can withstand extreme environments for high-performance aerospace & defense applications, all while reducing lead times and production costs. Alpine seeks to provide a HX5 or HX5 overmoldedĀcomponent to modernize metallic legacy components for the B-52 to optimize both combat capability and aircraft energy consumption.Ā The objective of this Phase I is to acquire a Customer Memorandum from relevant Air Force Customers and End-Users. The primary success criteria is to demonstrate HX5Æs applicability and efficacy in meeting their needs by highlighting the performance and durability of parts injection molded and overmolded with HX5 through energy-informed material integration. By integrating them into USAF equipment and structures, Alpine can showcase the partsÆ effectiveness in improving mobility, range, durability, and resistance to harsh environments.ĀThis Customer Memorandum will serve as an acknowledgment of the interest and readiness of the USAF Division to participate in a Phase II Development project.
