Research abstract

Battlespace blue force tracking, as well as Command and Control (C2) are the bedrock of successful operations. 2030 Concepts of Operations infer that Airmen will conduct missions in contested, degraded operations in urban, city-like environments that will present Radio Frequency (RF) barriers for effective transmission of critical information from operators back to command centers. A low SWaP-C and attritable networked marking and signaling device is not currently available to warfighting efforts, and Airmen are without reconfigurable overt and covert signaling devices to conduct dynamic Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP) necessary for a variety of missions.  Problem: The Air Force lacks intelligent solutions to extend marking and signaling networks to connect C2 agencies to forward operators which would enhance situational awareness through known color awareness signaling techniques. Existing signaling methodologies provide a static solution that lacks the responsive reconfigurability necessary for warfighters to thrive on the battlefields of the future and do not have a connection to information systems such as a Tactical Assault Kit/Team Awareness Kit (TAK) Common Operating Picture. Near-peer operational environments, such as megacities, induce a wide variety of physical and existing RF infrastructure impediments for traditional communications methodologies not encountered during the Global War on Terror (GWOT). ???????Faradine is going to overcome operational pain points with the BCON, a man-portable, vehicle-mountable, TAK-enabled, smart signaling device. BCON replaces traditional chemlights and static markers with a smart, connected device that offers remote reconfiguration of optical signaling arrays. By utilizing the visual, near-infrared, and shortwave infrared spectrums, our cutting-edge technology enhances the safety, effectiveness, and adaptability of military personnel on the battlefield.
