Research abstract

Aeromarine has designed an extreme Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) aircraft, termed the Hyper-STOL, that can take-off and land in under 100 feet from almost any surface including beaches, dirt roads, deserts and small open fields. This exceptional performance potential has been independently verified by Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis. The Army hasĀa demonstrated need forĀresupply and this new Hyper-STOL aircraft can fill that need carrying 500 lbs of payload over 1,000 miles with an attritable asset. Features of this new STOL aircraft design include: Ģ Large access door and payload space to accommodate a NATO-spec stretcher Ģ Utility aircraft for a variety of missions including FOB re-supply Ģ Off-field and rough field tundra-style landing gear for operations in nearly any LZ: land or sea Ģ Turbo-charged and intercooled engine enhancing performance in hot and high-altitude environments Ģ Can be flown as an OPV (Autonomous operation) Ģ An Order of Magnitude in lower acquisition and operating cost This newĀHyper-STOL aircraft fits a niche for military and commercial operations as a low-cost, attritable, forward-deployed asset. This aircraft fills multiple CONOPS including CASEVAC land or sea, resupply, and extended range/endurance ISR. Full autonomy is an option. CONOPS have shifted from desert operations to the INDOPACOM theater. For example, flight operations from beaches are currently under research asĀpart of a broader push to become more "runway agnostic" amid concerns about well-established bases becoming ever more vulnerable, especially in the opening phases of a potential high-end fight against a near-peer adversary like China. Unfortunately, across much of the Pacific, access to dry land of any kind, suitable for use as a runway or not, can often be limited. The ability to make use of beaches as landing strips could be a valuable way to increase the total number of potential landing zones to support various types of operations. The Aeromarine Hyper-STOL can operate in all environments and can be either autonomous or optionally piloted. Aeromarine has autopilot, UAS, and BLOS integration capabilities. Hyper-STOL capabilities are due in part to AeromarineÆs patented wing embedded DEPOD technology that is incorporated into our high-left wing and provides the following benefits: 1) 100% added take-off thrust; 2) Active flight envelope protection; 3) Blown ailerons for lower approach speeds; 4) Reverse thrust for shorter landings. DEPOD offers active envelop protection which means the electric motors are controlled autonomously and independently to ensure that the aircraft is always flying within its flight envelope. This is a huge safety feature as well as enhancing and supplementing future autonomous operations. DEPOD could enhance aviation safety in a similar fashion that lane assist, auto braking, and adaptive cruise control is improving automotive safety.
