Research abstract

Under this proposed Phase II effort, Intrinsic will dramatically extend previous research/research and development (R/R&D) from work Intrinsic has performed with AFSIM and Golden Horde efforts the past. áIntrinsic will conduct applied research to best meet end user requirements by delivering prototype capabilities for the Air Force end user to test and evaluate (basic R/R&D/RDTE testing). áAfter, receiving end user feedback, Intrinsic will conduct non-recurring engineering (applied R/R&D to prototype/modified COTS/NDI) to make adaptations and meet requirements as afforded in the program budget. áIntrinsic will then deliver a total of five demos for end-user evaluation and feedback. The standard release of AFSIM builds contain a framework for a sensor-signature architecture. Signatures are components that can be added to platforms, allowing them to be detected by certain sensors. Sensors, on the other hand, look for platforms containing signatures, and utilize those signatures to determine detection capability.á Currently, AFSIMĺs native signatures are simple. Signatures typically contain either constant values or table look ups for platforms with inputs such as sensor bandwidth or current operating modes. Sensors are higher fidelity, they can report target locations, bearings, velocity, etc, but lack any ability to identify targets. AFSIM also contains a framework for developing C++ based plugins, allowing developers to expand upon or add additional capabilities for given scenarios. Intrinsic will use this plugin architecture to expand upon capabilities such as signatures and sensors. This is a best practice approach as AFSIM training documentation explicitly demonstrates utilizing plugs to add additional sensor types and target types to the AFSIM code base.á The tasks outlined in Phase II will be completed through the development of AFSIM plugins to expand the existing code base and the sensor-signature architecture laid out by AFSIM creators. These plugins will then interface additional C++ libraries that contain models for various targets, platforms and signature types (EO/IR/RF).á Utilizing the plugin interface helps to maintain a clean AFSIM scenario implementation while simultaneously enabling the use of áC++ tools and libraries to enhance real-time performance of the simulation.á á
