Research abstract

EMP is a burst of electromagnetic radiation that can damage or destroy sensitive electronic equipment like SCADA controls, PLC, computers, and similar electronic equipment. The problem with EMP is that it can disable electronic systems in a large area rendering power grids and their subsystems inoperable for potentially hundreds of miles in diameter in the event of a HEMP attack.  Both military and civilian critical infrastructure are vulnerable to not only intentional EMP, but also to GMD like solar flares. Command and control infrastructure must mitigate the effects of natural and intentional electronic and kinetic (earthquake, hurricane, ballistics, etc.) disruption while remaining secure in communication from emanations and eavesdropping.   The OTS EMP shielding system is a comprehensive solution to simplify, consolidate, and cost effectively harden critical infrastructure in a multitude of form factors and applications.  OTS patented EM shielding process allows us to provide both tilt-wall panels and modules (SCIF) for construction of multi-threat hardened structures that are EM secured, and UL Level 10 Ballistic tested to sustain man made and natural geological threats.   OTS has worked with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) and others to prove that our system exceeds the MIL-STD-188-125 EMP standards for Shielding Effectiveness (SE) and does so with a robust system more resilient than the traditional welded panel of a bolted panel system. The OTS conductive concrete with its integrated electromagnetic shield system provides for a lower total cost of ownership in the form of upfront and maintenance savings while enabling simplified internal fit out of the structure without compromising the EM shielding characteristics like antiquated systems.
