Research abstract
Vyir’s technology extends the spectral range of a standard CMOS visible camera into the infrared spectrum, reducing the camera cost and SWaP while increasing resolution; leveraging existing CMOS supply chains to achieve high volume production. A typical infrared camera uses pixels fabricated from semiconductor materials that are electrically readout. These are expensive, low-resolution and challenging to manufacture, preventing their adoption for promising applications. Vyir’s optical infrared camera (O-IR) transduces the information from an infrared image into visible laser light and uses a standard cell phone CMOS camera for optical readout. Our proprietary EnCoater™ technology is a nano-structured, near-critical angle spatial filter. It creates a selective path for visible light through a nano structured optical coating, displacing it, and self-aligning the light to the infrared sensitive region. An infrared image projected on the top surface triggers a change in the reflection of the visible light that is proportional to the incident infrared light. The spatial and intensity information is then read out using a visible camera. Most of our value propositions stem from leveraging already existing supply chains and high-volume production of visible light electronics. Additionally, EnCoater™ is made using a standard wafer-scalable fabrication process, permitting high volume production and mass deployment.
