Research abstract

To address the Defense Logistics AgencyÆs (DLAÆs) need for alternative qualified supply sources to improve DLA product availability and build a resilient SBM base to reduce the acquisition and supportability costs, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (Intellisense) proposes to develop a new Bradley Reverse Engineering to Procurement Source (B-REPS) process specifically to reverse engineer (RE) the 5855-01-588-5668 Wired Housing Assembly to improve product availability and increase competition. The proposed RE process is based on a unique combination of IntellisenseÆs proven technical approaches and quality-derived processes to achieve a form-fit-function replication. Specifically, the innovation in using new components and techniques to functionally replicate the 5855-01-588-5668 and modern RE measurement and software tools to validate form-fit ensures that IntellisenseÆs technical data package (TDP) will provide DLA with a form-fit-function replacement of the 5855-01-588-5668 with enhanced capabilities that allow for future procurement and potential vehicle upgrades. As a result, this process addresses the need for the 5855-01-588-5668 replacement and enables Intellisense to participate as an approved source, directly addressing the DLAÆs requirements. In Phase I, Intellisense plans to define a refined system architecture designed to significantly decrease life cycle costs, create a preliminary Source Approval Request package, which is required to become an approved vendor for the Wired Housing Assembly, and develop the framework and baseline for a comprehensive TDP. In Phase II, Intellisense will complete Engineering Support Activity necessary to provide a full TDP, identify necessary testing and certification required for transition to production, and prepare plans to manufacture the replacement as an approved source for DLA, leading to Phase III procurement of the parts.
