Research abstract

In order to address DoDÆs urgent need for decentralized generation of hydrogen peroxide for decontamination on remote sites, ChromoLogic LLC (CL) proposes to develop an aerophilic-electrode-based membrane free electrolyzer (AMeFE) as a light-weight, energy saving, and high efficiency H2O2 generator to support application of vaporized hydrogen peroxide. As the challenge of respiratory protection evolves, users in the DoD community are asking for alternatives to full facepiece respirators. TodayÆs user is looking for solutions which are lighter weight and lower burden than the classic air purifying respirator in order to perform specific missions at the highest performance level. Custom half masks provide a scalable solution especially in environments with lighter challenges than chemical warfare agents. The objective of this Sequential SBIR project is to demonstrate the fabrication and assembly of personally fitted half-mask respirators. Our technical solution is to use imaging technology to generate half-mask respirator design files that are fitted to an individual and then take advantage of additive manufacture to fabricate the personally fitted respirator. The goal of the project is to demonstrate scan-to-manufacture of fully functional half-mask respirators for soldiers. This project also aims to build a business ecosystem of materials technology developers, materials producers, manufacturing equipment providers and DoD manufacturers who can deliver the complete technology solution to the warfighter.
