Research abstract

Medical provider burnout is a strain on provider and nurse retention and significantly increases the likelihood of medical mistakes. 78% of doctors who reported medical errors had symptoms of burnout. Currently, 35% of AF Physician Specialties face a shortage below 80% authorization. By adopting the Arena Strive solution, DAF would potentially benefit from the same decreases this technology platform has show in civilian medical provider burnout: reducing by more than 40% as measured by the Stanford Professional Fulfillment Index for clinicians. That reduction dramatically increases quality of life, physiological metrics (lowers heart rate and increases sleep) and could result in a similar decrease in medical mistakes decrease, provider retention and mitigation of suicide. Arena Strive is a mobile-based platform that combines data-backed content, human biometrics, and personal performance coaching to help frontline clinicians apply the same proven tools for stress management, self-awareness, and recovery used by other high-risk fields. This personalized experiences uses dynamic content and teaching from world experts in science and performance, along with best-in-class wearable technology. In the aggregate, blinded and de-identified data of doctors and nurses provides hospital leaders with proactive insights about health, wellness, and stress of medical teams.  Arena Labs has spent the last 7 years leading the field of High Performance Medicine® and has conducted Institutional Review Board (IRB) studies of their technology with Stanford University, the Cleveland Clinic and Advocate Health. All of these studies have show Arena Labs is the first company to demonstrably reduce burnout (up to 40%) and improve physiology (improve HRV by 5% and time asleep by 15 minutes) through a comprehensive performance experience, in six weeks with maintenance of effect over 12 weeks. Arena Labs is pioneering performance science in healthcare to conceptualize, build, and sell a platform that trains, educates, and equips frontline medical personnel around physiology and psychology for wellness and performance. They are currently operating in 12 of the top US health systems across operating room, emergency room, trauma, cardiology and neurology teams. Arena has partnered with Air Force leaders at the 959th Medical Group and has been contacted by the Defense Health Agency as they lead the reorganization of military medicine across all services and seek to streamline care and increase focus on provider wellness.  The team anticipates creation of bespoke content modules for military medicine, tailored data dashboard for Air Force medical leaders, and coaching systems that meet the unique operational demands of military medicine in a time of increased load on the individual. Arena remains focused on human-to-human coaching to mitigate “Software as a Service” fatigue currently observed in technology platforms across the US.
